Overlooking the Alabama River, Freedom Monument Sculpture Park honors the lives and memories of the 10 million Black people who were enslaved in America and celebrates their courage and resilience.

Equal Justice Initiative’s Freedom Monument Sculpture Park, which explores the legacy of slavery and the lives of enslaved people through contemporary artworks, first-person narratives, and historical artifacts, is generating growing excitement with glowing reports from national and international media. The park features sculptures and wall with 122,000 surnames of the 4.7 million people formerly enslaved recorded in the 1870 Census.
